Soft tissue abnormalities in Wassel Type VI radial polydactyly: a detailed anatomical study

نویسندگان

چکیده

Wassel VI radial polydactyly is associated with metacarpal adduction and deviation of the metacarpophalangeal joint ulnar duplicate. The soft tissue abnormalities responsible for these deformities were characterized using preoperative multi-planar three-dimensional ultrasound intraoperative observation in four patients. In all patients, abductor pollicis brevis superficial head flexor inserted into first metacarpal, whereas adductor deep thumb. Aberrant location longus absence A1 pulley system was severe deviation. An additional thenar muscle along minimal adduction. Uneven forces on duplicate could be characteristic instability. Knowledge allows better planning surgery further insight this rare configuration. Level evidence: II

Reconstruction of Wassel Type VI Radial Polydactyly with Triphalangeal Thumb Using an On-top Osteotomy

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to present a novel surgical technique using an on-top osteotomy and to assess the clinical and radiographic outcomes for the triphalangeal Wassel type VI thumb duplication patients. METHODS The surgical technique involves ablation of the radial thumb at distal one-third of the metacarpal, corresponding metacarpal osteotomy of the ulnar thumb, with amal...

Modified Bilhaut-Cloquet procedure for Wassel type-II and III polydactyly of the thumb.

BACKGROUND The Bilhaut-Cloquet operation is a combined surgical procedure for the treatment of a symmetric bifid thumb. Although this procedure can obtain a normal-sized thumb with a stable interphalangeal joint, it has limitations, such as the technical difficulty of combining all segments of a duplicated thumb, possible later physeal growth arrest, joint stiffness, and nail-plate deformity. W...

A discrete soft tissue model for complex anatomical environment simulations.

Among the current challenges in human soft tissue modeling for medical purposes, the ability to model complex anatomical structures, their interactions and to accurately simulate them with physical realism are in the forefront of research. This paper describes a discrete soft tissue model which is geared toward solving these challenges. In this model, objects can be described as volumetric or s...

On-top and side-to-side plasties for thumb polydactyly

INTRODUCTION "On-top" and "side-to-side" plasties are techniques used for treating thumb duplications in which one thumb is adequate proximally and the other thumb contains a better pulp and nail distally. The detailed functional results of these techniques have not been reported in the literature. We report on two cases. PRESENTATION OF CASES The first case had Wassel type VI duplication. Th...

Anatomical Abnormalities in Autism?

Substantial controversy exists regarding the presence and significance of anatomical abnormalities in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The release of the Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange (∼1000 participants, age 6-65 years) offers an unprecedented opportunity to conduct large-scale comparisons of anatomical MRI scans across groups and to resolve many of the outstanding questions. Comprehensiv...
